1 of 1 WWII newspaper printing plate of the Act of Surrender.

This original WWII-era newspaper printing plate depicts the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay (1945). On September 2, 1945, representatives from the Japanese government and Allied forces assembled aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay to sign the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, which effectively ended World War II. Only a handful of original newspaper printing plates depicting the surrender of the Japanese aboard the USS Missouri are still known to exist. As images of the surrender were received by news organizations and distributed these printing plates were made in order to produce mass copies in newspapers. This printing plate was very heavily used as it still shows remnants of ink and press marks still visible on some sections of the printing plate The image is in reverse which is common for printing plates as they were printed to mirror and reflected on the paper.
