This early WWII 1942 dated ‘War Department’ Basic Field Manual is a military intelligence booklet for the identification of U.S. government and military aircraft. This early war booklet details the visible features of some of the most infamous aircraft used during World War II. It also very extensively details the methods of operation, sounds, and model designations. Within the booklet are hundreds some of the most famous United States Army aircraft including the B-17, B-25, P-35, and the P-40. The booklet also details a color page specifically designed for the instruction of aircraft wing designs and insignias, as well as labels and names for certain sections of an aircraft.
This book also features annotations on the inside from the American soldier that previously owned it. One of the most notable features in the book is the annotation mark on the heavy bombardment Boeing B-17 aircraft where it is labeled “Memphis Belle”.
