This incredibly rare and very historic piece of WWII history is an original U.S. Marine Corps uniform patch worn by a World War II Marine of the 4th Marine Division.
The 4th Marine Division was a key force in the Pacific during World War II, playing a crucial role in the United States' strategy in the Pacific Theater.
Formed in August 1943, its notable engagements began with operations on the Marshall Islands in February 1944, introducing effective amphibious tactics. This success was followed by critical operations in Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands, showcasing the division's prowess and strategic importance.
The division's most renowned battle occurred at Iwo Jima in February 1945, where its Marines endured heavy tolls but achieved a symbolic victory, highlighted by the iconic flag-raising on Mount Suribachi.
The 4th Marine Division was deactivated in November 1945, remembered for its bravery, innovation, and significant impact on the Pacific outcome.
