Although the origin of this photograph cannot be traced, it demonstrates an amazing view of what the devastation look like from artillery as well as modern warfare from the German army. This photograph depicts the village of Château-Thierry that was wrecked by German troops on their way towards Paris in July of 1918. The Battle of Château-Thierry was fought on 31 May 1918 and was one of the first actions of the American Expeditionary Forces under General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing. It was a battle in World War I as part of the Second Battle of the Marne, initially prompted by a German Spring Offensive.
