______________________________
This incredibly rare and very historic piece of NASA space history is an original "Skylab Program” Space Station astronaut mission match that was worn as well as given to astronauts, Mission Control personnel, and NASA scientists who played a role in the Skylab Program.
The Skylab program, launched in 1973, was America's first orbiting space station, using Apollo-era hardware like the Command Module and Saturn V. Over three missions, crews stayed aboard Skylab for 28, 59, and 84 days, setting records for human spaceflight duration and conducting extensive scientific research, including solar and Earth observations and biomedical studies.
Despite initial damage during launch, astronauts performed successful in-orbit repairs, proving human adaptability in space.
Skylab traveled 70.5 million miles, completing 2,476 manned orbits before re-entering Earth's atmosphere in 1979. The program demonstrated the feasibility of long-term space habitation, influencing future space stations and international collaboration in space exploration.
We authenticate our piece of history at the micro level! During the authentication process sometimes we use high-res microscopes. In one of the last images of the listing, I included a few high-res images of the “Original Skylab Mission Patch” that was done during this authentication process!
*In the last images of this listing, you will see two digitally sourced historical images of this item and its role in history!
This would make an amazing addition to any NASA, Apollo, or space history enthusiast collection.
