Type: Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-67 Mission "Space Flown" Endeavour Cargo Bay Strap
Dated: 1995
This authentic NASA Space Shuttle Endeavour display features a genuine piece of the shuttle's cargo bay strap, originally used during its historic STS-67 mission.
The Space Shuttle Endeavour cargo bay strap was replaced by NASA following the STS-67 mission, and still shows traces of the original red NASA paint still visible, a mark left after the shuttle piece was removed and officially “scrapped”. This cargo bay strap was used in the main open cargo bay of the Endeavour shuttle and is specially treated and made with materials to protect against the environment of space.
The STS-67 mission was a NASA Space Shuttle mission flown by Endeavour that launched on March 2, 1995, and lasted for 16 days, 15 hours, 8 minutes, making it the second-longest shuttle mission to that date. The mission's primary objective was to conduct ultraviolet astronomical observations using the Astro-2 observatory, a set of three telescopes mounted on the shuttle's payload bay. Astro-2 allowed for extensive study of various celestial objects, including stars, nebulae, and galaxies, in ultraviolet light, which cannot be observed from Earth's surface due to atmospheric interference.
STS-67 achieved significant scientific milestones, such as recording detailed data on the far-ultraviolet emissions of objects like quasars and white dwarfs. The mission collected a vast amount of data, doubling what was gathered on the previous Astro-1 mission (STS-35), and helped expand our understanding of the structure and evolution of the universe.
Our meticulous craftsmanship transforms this storied piece of NASA history into a sophisticated display perfect for any display case, desk, or collector space! This display is perfect for anyone passionate about NASA, astronauts, or space exploration history!
