This incredibly rare and very historic piece of WWII history is an original U.S. 5th Air Force uniform patch worn by a World War II 5th Air Force pilot.

During World War II, the 5th Air Force played a critical role in the Pacific Theater, rebounding from early losses in the Philippines to become a decisive force in Pacific Theater operations.

Its significant involvement included the Battle of the Bismarck Sea in 1943, where it helped destroy a key enemy convoy, severely limiting reinforcements and supplies to New Guinea.

Operating aircraft such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, P-40 Warhawk, B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell, and the P-38 Lightning, the 5th Air Force excelled in air superiority, and close air support.

Notable pilots like Major Richard I. Bong and Brigadier General Charles Lindbergh contributed to its legacy, demonstrating heroism and tactical innovation. The 5th Air Force's efforts were crucial in supporting Allied ground advances and contributing to the eventual victory in the Pacific Theater.
