This incredibly rare and very historic piece of WWII history is an original 1944 dated U.S. Army World War II map used by Cpt. Raymond C. McCally while serving with the 313th Infantry - 79th Division in the ETO.
The 313th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Infantry Division played a pivotal role in World War II, engaging in key campaigns across Europe with distinction. After rigorous training in the United States, they landed on Utah Beach shortly after D-Day and played a crucial role in the intense combat of the Battle of Normandy, contributing significantly to the capture of the strategically vital port of Cherbourg. Following this, they were instrumental in the rapid Allied advance across France, liberating key cities such as Le Mans and Laval, and facilitating the overall drive towards Paris. In December 1944, the regiment faced one of their toughest challenges during the Battle of the Bulge, where they helped to repel the enemy's massive counter-offensive in the Ardennes Forest despite harsh winter conditions. Early in 1945, the 313th participated in the critical crossing of the Rhine River at Remagen, leading to the encirclement and eventual collapse of the Ruhr Pocket. As the war in Europe ended, the regiment undertook occupation duties in Germany, maintaining order and aiding in the disarmament process. Their actions throughout the war earned numerous commendations, including Presidential Unit Citations, and their legacy of bravery, resilience, and tactical proficiency remains a significant part of WWII history.
This would make an amazing addition to any WWII or U.S. Army collection.
