This incredible World War II four grommet theater flown U.S. Navy ensign flag shows good use and wear. What makes this flag so interesting is that this U.S. Ensign No. 9 marked flag (large type) is a very rare ensign flag produced by STLIZ PHILADELPHIA QUARTERMASTER DEPOT. Ensign No. USN flags were produced by Mare Island or Valley Forge and sometimes other flag companies if contacted by the U.S. military there are very few ensign no. flag from the STLIZ PHILA company that were ever produced for the U.S. Navy.

Because of the brass grommets it is believed this flag is an early WWII and was produced in 1941 or slightly earlier.

The NO. 9 type flag type is historically documented as being issued and flown on larger by naval ships as well as LCTs (Landing Ship Tank). The NO. 9 marked flag is one of the most sought after number (No.) marks by collectors.

Flag No. 9 was designated on the U.S. Ensign R.I.F. Chart to be hoist at 80” fly height.
