This incredible and captured World War II Japanese banknote is heavily signed by US Marine Corps and Army soldiers at some point during the infamous Battle of Okinawa. The Battle of Okinawa (Japanese: 沖縄戦, Hepburn: Okinawa-sen), codenamed Operation Iceberg, was a major battle of the Pacific War fought on the island of Okinawa by United States Army and United States Marine Corps (USMC) forces against the Imperial Japanese Army. The initial invasion of Okinawa on 1 April 1945 was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The Kerama Islands surrounding Okinawa were preemptively captured on 26 March, (L-6) by the 77th Infantry Division. The 82-day battle lasted from 1 April until 22 June 1945. After a long campaign of island hopping, the Allies were planning to use Kadena Air Base on the large island of Okinawa as a base for Operation Downfall, the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands, 340 mi (550 km) away.

Titled “Club Okinawa” does captured banknote is believed to be a WWII souvenir and momento of a Pacific theater veteran. The front and back of the Japanese banknote are heavily signed and includes more than 15+ signatures total. It is unclear whether this bank and it was captured during the beginning, during, or after the Okinawa campaign. Because we cannot confirm what date of the campaign this was signed by the men this could mean that some of the men that signed this bill were KIA and MIA of the Battle of Okinawa.
