This beautifully preserved Bible is a unique piece of history. It is a World War I soldier's Bible, inscribed with the name "JF Niblett" and the soldier handwritten name of the Wiltshire Regiment, a line infantry regiment of the British Army. The Bible is dated 1917, and it is in excellent condition for its age.

The Wiltshire Regiment was formed in 1881 and saw action in a number of conflicts, including the Boer War and World War I. JF Niblett would have carried this Bible with him into battle, providing spiritual guidance and comfort during the horrors of war.

At the outbreak of World War I, the Wiltshire Regiment was stationed in India. The regiment was quickly called back to Britain, and it arrived in time to take part in the fighting on the Western Front. The Wiltshires were part of the 38th (Welsh) Division, and they were tasked with capturing the village of Passchendaele. The attack was successful, but at a high cost, with the Wiltshires suffering heavy casualties.

Throughout the war, the Wiltshire Regiment displayed great courage and determination. The regiment suffered heavy losses, but it continued to fight valiantly until the end of the war. The Wiltshires were recognized for their bravery and sacrifice, with many members of the regiment receiving decorations for their service.
