This odd piece of World War I memorabilia is one that will make you look twice. Titled  “Why Are We Fighting - Wilson” This World War I pocket book  states president Wilson's views on the subject of going to war and making the world safe for Democracy. his views are expressed in his reply on August 27th of 1917 to the peace letter of his Holiness Benedict XV, Pope and  in his infamous war message to Congress on April 2nd of 1917.  While it is still unclear who this book was intended for fully, on the back it is stamped issued by a group of American citizens.  what makes this book extremely interesting are the swastika symbols, 卐 (right-facing or clockwise) seen as a border used on the front cover. While the swastika hold Religious and Indian spiritual meaning, it was used as a  symbol of good luck until the 1930s when the right-facing tilted form became a feature of Nazi symbolism as an emblem of the Aryan race. As a result of World War II and the Holocaust, many people in the West still strongly associate it with Nazism and antisemitism. This book leaves in eerie feeling on what is to come years later in World War II.
