This set of four extremely rare  and museum-grade original WWII Pattons U.S. Third Army situation maps were hand-drawn and show a clear and simplified strategic view of the U.S. Third Army’s movements. 

Situation maps like this were created using TOP SECRET and SECRET intelligence reports and front-line communications updates as the Allied forces pushed through France from the D-Day Normandy Beaches on June 6th, 1944. 

These HQ situation maps were used by high-ranking officers of the U.S. Third Army and was used to make future strategic decisions during operations against Germans forces as Patton and the Third Army advanced across the European Theater. Simplistic maps like this were hand-drawn to comprise more simplistic movement diagrams to see a more accurate picture of Division locations and movements on the front lines.  

This set of four original World War II situational HQ maps were created from Captain John K Beard who is originally from Washington DC. Cpt. Beard what is a part of the HQ company of the 314th Artillery of the 80th Infantry Division. We were able to find out that Cpt. Beard was a part of the division that originally landed on Utah beach on August 5, 1944. Throughout World War II the 80th Division was considered the "work horse" of General Patton's Third Army and to play a key role in the breakthrough at Avranches. 

During his service of World War II, he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Heart for his service in the European Theater.
