This incredibly rare and museum-grade WWII “PRELIMINARY LORAN CHART GUAM TO KOREA” Pacific Theater combat operations map marked “RESTRICTED” is dated June 30th, 1945 and is a very rare edition prepared directly by Coast Guard Unit 203. Coast Guard Unit 203 was established to direct field operations in the Pacific as well as maintain liaisons with CinPac and PincPao. During the time this map was printed Coast Guard Unit 203 was under the command of LCRD Kenneth W. Donnell from September 1944 through December 1945.
This LORAN map played a pivotal role during World War II in guiding USN ships as well as carrier, fighter, and search and rescue aircraft through the perilous skies and seas of the Pacific Theater. What makes this specific Pacific Theater LORAN combat map so rare is that it shows combat markings with navigational paths from IWO JIMA to OKINAWA.
