History:
The Anasazi (or ‘ancient outsiders’) where an ancient Native American tribe of Ancestral Puebloans whose Native American roots spanned the four corners region of present-day Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. Dating back to his as 1500 B.C. the Anasazi are most notably known for their immaculate and intricate cities built into the sides of cliffs of the Southwest. These magnificent villages were so complex in structure the some of the cliffside cities were five stories tall and contained nearly 800 individual rooms. The overhang from the carved rock formations protected them from sandstorms and heavy rains. Many of their ancient Anasazi city structures still stand today as they are some of the world's longest-standing structures. The Anasazi are most notably known for their pottery and basketry. The pottery and basket weaving was traditionally passed down from generation to generation and done by the women of the tribe. These hand weaved vegetation baskets and hand-coiled pottery are some of the most admired pieces of ancient Native American artifacts today.
This Arizona Anasazi pottery shards were excavated from the White Mountains of Arizona and are estimated to be around 600 to 1,000 years old.
