This original World War II banknote was a Pacific Theater bring back item from a World War II veteran who served and saw combat experience in the Pacific Theater. This is one of many banknotes that he brought back along with other captured items such as a Japanese soldier cloth infantry hat, helmet, signed Japanese flag, and a Japanese katana. Sometimes these were found on the ground of captured towns as the Allied forces pushed through the Pacific or there are accounts of soldiers rummaging through the pockets of KIA or captured Japanese soldiers after a battle. While this banknote is in used condition, it appears to show signs of staining and heavy wear.  These are some of the many items that US servicemen generally sent home as they were flat and easy to send in airmail letters.

This specific Japanese bill is known issued by the Japanese in the Philippines as part of the Japanese invasion money of World War II. This bill was issued between 1942 and 1945 by the occupying Japanese government.
