History:

Often referred to as the last Ice Age, the Pleistocene Epoch dates as far back as 2,580,000 to 11,700 years ago. During this era, large sections of glaciers covered most of the planet Earth. It's estimated that the Pleistocene Era is the first documented case in which Homo Sapiens evolved. Throughout this large section of time, humans moved across large stretches of land and by the end of the epoch, Homo Sapiens lived on almost every part of the planet. The planet back then looked very different than now as large ice sheets covered most of Europe North America and South America. Many of these glaciers can still be seen in parts of the world today. During this extremely harsh climate, many large mammals had to adapt to the extremely cold climate. Animals such as the sabertooth cat, woolly mammoth, giant ground slots, and mastodons roamed much of the lands.

This identified mammal bone is dated to the Pleistocene Epoch and was excavated in Germany.
