This WWII German canteen was widely used by all branches of the Wehrmacht as a reinforcing canteen. The canteens themselves were usually made out of a steel or aluminum material with a cloth cover known as a ‘gaberdine’. The gaberdine was produced as a camouflage cover for a German soldier to reduce and cover the silver glare of their canteen on the battlefield. This canteen still has the original leather straps and hook as if it was just recently taken off of the German soldier.
