______________________________
This incredibly rare and very historic piece of NASA space history is an original "STS-91" Space Shuttle Discovery astronaut mission match that was worn as well as given to astronauts and Mission Control personnel who played a role in the STS-91 Shuttle-Mir Program.
STS-91, launched on June 2, 1998, was the final Space Shuttle mission to dock with the space station Mir. Aboard Space Shuttle Discovery, the crew retrieved astronaut Andrew Thomas, conducted experiments with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), and transferred supplies and scientific samples.
The mission overcame technical challenges, provided insights into long-duration spaceflight and cosmic rays, and contributed significantly to the development of the International Space Station (ISS).
STS-91 symbolized successful cooperation in space exploration and laid the groundwork for future joint missions.
