______________________________
This extraordinary authentic NASA Space Shuttle Columbia display was created using an original piece of the NASA Space Shuttle Columbia STS-3 orbit mission chart that was used by U.S. astronauts to determine their projected orbital rotation around Earth.
STS-3 was the third mission of NASA's Space Shuttle program, launched on March 22, 1982, with the Space Shuttle Columbia. The mission's primary objective was to test the shuttle's thermal protection system and various other systems in space. It was also the first shuttle mission to land at White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico due to flooding at Edwards Air Force Base in California, the planned landing site. The mission lasted eight days and included extensive scientific experiments in space, including studies of Earth’s atmosphere and solar observations. The crew consisted of Commander Jack R. Lousma and Pilot C. Gordon Fullerton, both experienced astronauts. The mission was deemed a success, contributing valuable data for future shuttle flights.
