Prisoners of war, also referred to as P.O.W. were captured enemy soldiers held and detained by the opposing army. The phrase "prisoner of war" dates back as far as the 1660's. During their captivity, men were sometimes given the opportunity to write letters to family members, friends, or significant others back home. This Austria published Red Cross card was mailed from Bobrov by Lt.Hanus to the prisoner's mother Any Hanusova.
