This World War I press photo is a very large size as opposed to many from the time. It appears the show French soldiers holding a trench line with their rifles drawn towards the enemy. Most trenches dug on the front were long narrow 'maze like' connected ditches. Poorly constructed trenched, as well as dirt, mud, and trench rats contributed to many illnesses on both sides of the war. With the rapid innovations of smaller mobile cameras, photojournalists were now able to capture images quicker than ever before. Photographs such as this became one of the first times citizens could see unimaginable detail.
