After the US entered WWII the country began to see a shortages of all sorts of things including rubber, metal, clothing and various types of food. Most of the processed and foods were reserved for our military and our Allies overseas. Because of these shortages in supplies, the US government’s soon established a system of ration books that would fairly distribute foods, clothing, gasoline and other materials that were in short supply.  Every American was issued a series of ration books during the war. The ration books contained removable stamps that could be traded in for such supplies.
