A war bond is a debt security issued by a government to finance military operations during times of war. Investment in War Bonds was made through an emotional appeal to patriotic citizens to lend the government money as these bonds offered a rate of return below the market rate. This amazingly well preserved 200 Yen Japanese Imperial bond was issued in a cut sheet to the Japanese civilian who purchased many of the bonds in a single purchase. Many of these Japanese bonds were destroyed and made void following the war and are extremely rare to find in this condition.
