SP4 Allan George Barnes was assigned to the 3rd Platoon, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV. He was killed in action on May 6, 1968 in the Quang Tri Province of South Vietnam.

The Leaf Pattern Camouflage cover has soldier graffiti all over it. It says, Ten in Roman Numerals with "SHORT TIMER 11 DOWN 10 TO GO", witch is a football clock time reference. It also says, "WE NEED BATMAN NOT CHAPELNS". It also says, "BARNES" "101 AIRBORNE". And, "CALIFORNIA ALL THE WAY". And, "LOVERS LEAP NEXT JUNGLE ON THE RIGHT". The liner has the name "ALLAN" written on the inside on a strap. ***

The steel pot shell is a 1950s to 1960s manufactured. The paint on the steel pot looks more like the older Korean War era paint. The helmet pot shell has the side edge trim closing in the back. The Helmet Liner is 1960s vintage, and has a 1960s to 1970s era leather sweat band with faded markings. This Vietnam War era Helmet Liner has the back neck support strap. The Helmet Liner is an Airborne Paratrooper liner, and Steel Pot Shell are both Airborne Paratrooper Helmet parts. The Steel Pot Shell has damaged straps. The straps are a double strap with a snap on one end. The snap has a place in the Paratrooper Liner that it snaps into. The normal buckle part of the straps is missing. The hook end of the strap part is still there, but is about to fall off. The strap that the hook is connected to is 99% ripped away.

The Helmet comes with a Leaf Camouflage cover that has a "DSA" Defense Supply Administration stock number. This is an Early to Mod 1960s "DSA" stock number. After 1965, most "DSA" stock numbers have a date in the stock number. The elastic band that helps hold the cover on has the original markings. "BANDIT HELMET CAMOUFLAGE U S -2". The sewn on reflectors in the back have been removed from the elastic band. The Liner has some damage to the front harness strap. It has ripped and be damaged from use. Much of the olive drab paint on the outside of the liner has come off. There is some rust to the inside of the steel pot shell.

The helmet is over 50 years old, and is in USED Condition with wear damage from use. It is an Airborne Paratrooper helmet. It has the Paratrooper straps that snap into the Paratrooper liner. There is some damage to some of the straps. There are soldier markings. There is sun fading. There are dirt stains. There is oxidation to the metal parts. The strap attachment that would go to the chin is missing.
