History of The Battle of Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad was a brutal military campaign between Russian forces and those of Nazi Germany and the Axis powers during World War II. The battle is infamous as one of the largest, longest and bloodiest engagements in modern warfare. Marked by fierce close quarters combat and direct assaults on civilians in air raids. It is estimated that 2 million were killed, wounded, or captured during the Stalingrad campaign and is still one of the bloodiest battles in the history. After the German defeat at Stalingrad, the German High Command had to withdraw vast military forces from the Western Front to replace their losses.
